artist statement

My art practice starts in moments of observation while going about my everyday life. I’m often struck by the patterns in the overlooked and unassuming elements of life like crosswalks, foliage, windows, and sewer grates to name a few. Once in the studio, I use these patterns as inspiration to decorate my forms and use a combination of tape resist, embellishments, and glaze stippling to create tactile surfaces. My hope for my ceramics is to preserve a moment of consideration and to have that be felt by the people using my wares.

biography

Judith Yeo is a Singaporean-Canadian ceramic artist who currently resides in Seattle, WA. In 2023, she took her first wheel-throwing ceramics class and felt drawn to the hands-on nature of the craft and the physicality of finished work — a concept that was foreign to her after years as a software engineer.

She has exhibited her ceramics nationally and in statewide curated exhibitions. In 2025, she was awarded with the Washington State Artist Trust Grant and The Color Network Microgrant.

She was a past resident at The Clay Corner in Seattle, WA, Chehalem Cultural Center in Newburg, Oregon, and A.I.R. Vallauris in Vallauris, France. She has an upcoming residency at Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge, Montana.
